제주도여행 가볼만한곳 함덕해수욕장 서우봉 둘레길 정자 Jeju Island Seoubong

 

함덕해수욕장을 내려다볼 수 있는
서우봉 정자에 가보세요!

나 홀로 혹은 동생들과 제주도를 몇 번 다녀왔는데 어쩌다 보니 항상 겨울에 갔었다. 겨울에 가도 좋았다. 작년 초가을 나 홀로 제주도에 가게 됐다. 비행기 이륙 2시간 전 정말 갑작스럽게 가게 되어 여행계획도 세우지 못했고 렌트며 숙소며 모든 것을 제주도에 도착해서야 예약을 했다. 웬만한 관광지는 거의 다 가봐서 어디를 가야 좋을지 생각하다가 둘레길이 걷고 싶어졌다. 하지만 내가 신고 간 신발로는 둘레길을 걸을 수 없을 것 같았다. 그래서 생각한 것이  '처음부터 끝까지 다 걷지 말고 조금만 걸어보자'였다. 둘레길 코스 중 숲 속을 지나는 코스 하나와 바다 옆을 지나는 코스 하나를 정했는데 바다 옆을 지나는 코스가 바로 이 서우봉 둘레길이다. 

I've been to Jeju Island alone or with my siblings several times, but somehow I've always gone in the winter. It was nice to go in the winter too. I ended up going to Jeju Island alone in the early fall of last year. I went there really suddenly, 2 hours before my flight took off, so I couldn't even make a travel plan. I made reservations for everything, including the rental car and accommodations, after I arrived on Jeju Island. I've been to almost all the tourist attractions, so I was thinking about where to go, and I wanted to walk the trail. However, I didn't think I could walk the trail in the shoes I was wearing. So I thought, 'Let's not walk from beginning to end, but just walk a little bit.' I chose one of the trail courses that goes through the forest and one that goes next to the ocean, and the course that goes next to the ocean is this Seoubong Trail.

서우봉은 제주도 함덕리에 위치한 오름이다. 함덕해수욕장을 마주 보면 오른쪽으로 정자 하나가 보인다. 서우봉까지 올라가지 않고 서우봉 가는 길에 있는 정자까지만 올라가기로 했다. 이 날은 오후 비행기를 타고 집으로 돌아가는 날이어서 아침 일찍 움직였다. 저 멀리 보이는 오르막길엔 이미 많은 사람들이 걸어 올라가고 있었다. 제주 둘레길은 역시 유명했다. 한국인뿐만 아니라 외국인도 많았다. 

Seoubong is a mountain located in Hamdeok-ri, Jeju-do. If you face Hamdeok Beach, you can see a pavilion on the right. I decided not to climb all the way to Seoubong, but only to the pavilion on the way to Seoubong. I left early in the morning that day because I was taking an afternoon flight back home. There were already many people walking up the steep slope in the distance. The Jeju Trail was famous, after all. There were many foreigners as well as Koreans.

함덕해수욕장에서부터 걷기 시작했다. 하늘과 바다가 정말 아름다웠다. 여기가 정말 한국 제주도인가? 이 날 만큼은 필리핀 보라카이가 부럽지 않았다. 이 날 날씨가 아주 맑아서 경치가 끝내줬지만 기온이 높아서 시원한 바닷속으로 들어가고 싶을 만큼 더웠다. 

I started walking from Hamdeok Beach. The sky and the sea were really beautiful. Is this really Jeju Island in Korea? On this day, I didn't envy Boracay in the Philippines. The weather was very clear that day, so the scenery was amazing, but the temperature was high, so it was hot enough to make me want to go into the cool sea.

서우봉 둘레길의 지도이다. 나는 이 둘레길의 50분의 1 정도나 걸으려나? 내가 가려는 정자는 아예 표식도 없었다. 함덕해수욕장 오른쪽 주차장에서 서우봉 정자까지는 걸어서 5분이면 충분했다. 

This is a map of the Seoubong trail. I guess I'll only walk about 1/50 of this trail. The pavilion I was going to wasn't even marked. It only took 5 minutes to walk from the parking lot on the right side of Hamdeok Beach to the Seoubong pavilion.

서우봉 정자까지 올라가는 길은 경사가 가팔랐다. 짧아서 다행이었다. 산티아고순례길을 다녀온 뒤로 걷기조차 하지 않았더니 이 짧은 오르막길을 올라가는 동안 몇 번을 쉬었는지 모른다.  

The path up to Seoubong Pavilion was steep. Fortunately, it was short. I hadn't even walked since the pilgrimage to Santiago, so I don't know how many times I rested while climbing this short uphill path.

눈으로 봐도 걸어봐도 정말 가까운데 올라가는 내 내 어찌나 멀게 느껴지던지... 그래도 잠깐 올라왔는데 이렇게나 멋진 경치를 볼 수 있다는 것에 감사했다.

It was really close when I saw it with my eyes and walked up, but it felt so far away as I went up... Still, I was grateful that I could see such a wonderful view even though I only went up for a short while.

올라가면서 계속 뒤를 돌아봤다. 우와~ 우와~. 감탄사 외엔 다른 말이 필요 없었다. 멋진 풍경 덕분에 그 짧은 오르막길을 올라갈 수 있었다. 에메랄드빛 투명한 바다와 파란 하늘의 흰구름까지 완벽했다. 구름이 한라산을 가린 것이 좀 아쉬웠지만... 

I kept looking back as I climbed. Wow~ Wow~. There was no need for any other words besides exclamations. I was able to climb the short uphill thanks to the wonderful scenery. The emerald transparent sea and the blue sky with white clouds were perfect. It was a bit of a shame that the clouds obscured Mt. Halla...

서우봉 정자에 도착했다. 대부분의 사람들은 이 정자에서 잠깐 쉬고 위로 올라갔다. 아마도 둘레길을 걷는 중이었겠지.

We arrived at Seoubong Pavilion. Most people took a short break at this pavilion and then went up. They were probably walking along the perimeter trail.

함덕해수욕장 백사장에서 바다만 바라봐도 좋았는데 이렇게 서우봉 정자에 올라 아래를 내려다보니 더더더 좋았다. 아침 산책으로 딱 좋은 코스였다. 다음에 기회가 된다면 서우봉 둘레길을 끝까지 걸어보고 싶다.  

It was nice to just look at the ocean from the white sand beach of Hamdeok Beach, but it was even better when I climbed up to the Seoubong pavilion and looked down. It was the perfect course for a morning walk. If I get another chance, I want to walk the entire Seoubong trail.
